Breaking: Three Suspected Gunrunners Arrested in Connection with Plateau Massacre

Three suspected members of a gunrunning syndicate have been apprehended by the police in connection with the devastating Christmas Eve attack on communities in Plateau. The announcement of their arrest was made by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, during a media briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.

These arrests were made following a directive from Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, to implement tactical strategies aimed at bringing the perpetrators of the attack to justice.

The suspects were found in possession of an ash-colored Golf car, an AK-47 rifle, an AK-49 rifle, 1,000 rounds of live ammunition, and five magazines. Adejobi emphasized that efforts are underway to apprehend other individuals involved in the attacks, and assured the public of updates as the investigation progresses.

Meanwhile, the police had previously arrested nine suspects on December 13, 2023, in relation to the attack and killing of three individuals in the Gaube area of Kuje Area Council in the FCT.

The arrests were made after receiving a report about the attack on three transit passengers from Keffi, Nassarawa State, to Niger/Kwara states. Following this report, the Special Tactical Squad acted swiftly and apprehended the nine suspects.

Six of the suspects were identified as members of the hunters and forest guard in Kuje. According to Adejobi, these suspects had confessed to their involvement in the crime, revealing that they had left the bodies in the Kabi forest and fled with their Bajaj motorcycle to an undisclosed location in Takuba village, Kuje.
