12 Years of Enduring Domestic Violence
Taiwo Ajayi, an estranged wife of Pastor Joseph Okpongete from the House on the Rock Church in Lagos, has accused him of subjecting her to domestic violence, threatening her life, and financially abusing her.
In a series of posts titled “A CRY FOR HELP,” the relationship coach detailed the alleged physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse that she claims began during their honeymoon and continued even during her pregnancy. She has been separated from Okongete for four years and is appealing for support from Nigerians and church leaders, as she alleges that he is threatening her for filing for divorce and refusing to reconcile with him.
Additionally, she accused him of undermining her successful career as an award-winning recruiter and engaging in extramarital affairs with other women, including their housemaids.
In her plea for help, Taiwo Ajayi recounts the harrowing experiences she endured during her 12-year marriage, which included physical, emotional, psychological, and financial abuse. She also implores the Christian community to intervene, revealing that the case has been reported to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and the Nigerian Police Force.
Due to the sustained abuse, Taiwo relocated to Canada with her children to seek safety, but alleges that her ex-husband continued to harass and threaten her, even refusing to provide financial support for their children and their education. She reveals the challenges she faced in Canada and subsequent return to Lagos, pleading for assistance and imploring her ex-husband to leave her alone.
Despite the challenges and threats she faced, Taiwo remains resolute in her plea for freedom from the alleged abuse, seeking support from her community and urging her ex-husband to let her move on with her life.
